BRC (British Retail Consortium)

What is BRC?

BRC(British Retail Consortium) is a standard that represents all forms of retailers from small retail stores to big chains. It ensures four functions in an organization:

The standard is intended for agricultural and food and beverage businesses that manufacture or process food products, ingredients, and packaging materials.

The BRC food safety standard is used to prescribes quality, safety and operational criteria to ensure that manufacturers fulfil their legal obligations and provide protection for the end consumer.


The BRC accreditation ensures that the organization is meeting the standards in the food safety, quality and operational department. Similarly to the FSSC and ISO 22000 certification, the BRC certification is accreditation by an accreditation body.

BRC food certified system allows the exporters, producers, processors and exporters of food products in the utilization of technical resources efficiently, while being cost-effective for the assurance of food safety.
